The Manager of Human Resources is directly responsible for the overall management, administration and coordination of the human resource function.  The Manager of Human Resources will ensure the company reaches its goals in employee relations, compensation, benefits, payroll, employment compliance and operations, administration and other HR projects.  The ideal candidate will be hands on with day to day in a small team environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Knowledge and compliance with local, state and federal employment regulations
  • Responsible for recruiting, staffing, onboarding, retention, screening resumes and application, setting interviews, completing required reference checks  and completion of background checks
  • Payroll administrator: Uploading employee data into system of new and terminated employees
  • 401K, medical benefits audits and payroll for salaried employees
  • Provides excellent internal customer service functions by answering employee requests and questions with a high level of service and sense of urgency
  • Maintain accurate employee records, vacation/sick accruals, complete and record health insurance benefits, workman's compensation, and assist employees in understanding and evaluate the participation in these programs
  • Policy development and documentation: Ensure all record keeping with regards to new hires, termination of staff and government regulation is completed as required
  • Review and update the employee handbook as needed, providing employees and management assistance with interpretation and compliance with the policies and procedures within the handbook
  • Benefit administration (to include assisting with open enrollment)
  • Process and manage worker's comp claims and unemployment claims
  • Maintain confidential personnel files and personnel actions at all times
  • Conduct separation interviews and process all separation documents in accordance with labor law and company policies
  • Maintain all job descriptions and organizational charts
  • Ensure the employee performance programs/documents and review calendar are followed-up timely
  • Establishes and maintains department records and reports using an organizational recordkeeping log

Competencies:

  • Strong knowledge of CA labor laws
  • Bilingual a plus
  • Ability to maintain/manage confidential information
  • Ability to coordinate multiple tasks and interruptions
  • Customer service skills related to interacting with employees at all levels
  • Strong computer skills, specifically Microsoft Suite and Adobe Acrobat
  • Knowledge of HRIS software programs
  • Excellent attention to detail & time management abilities
  • Considerable knowledge of principles and practices of human resources
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills

Education & Experience

5 years' progressive HR experience.

Bachelor's degree in business related field, to include Human Resources or equivalent combination of work experience and education.

Experience working in manufacturing.

CalSHRM or PHRca (preferred).
